Take the tour, for the dull reason that someone else drives. You can reach Pezinok and Modra by train for about three euros, but the good cellars want a phone call in Slovak and half of them are outside the villages. The tour is the whole point here: it turns a logistics problem into a day out.

Do I need to book a Bratislava wine tour in advance?
Yes — this is the one thing here that does. Departures are typically two or three days a week with about twelve seats. One to two weeks is enough most of the year, three to four for September and October.
Are the Small Carpathians wine tours worth it?
If you like wine, yes. The region has been producing since the Romans and almost none of it leaves the country, so this is more or less the only place to drink it.
Can you visit the Small Carpathians wineries without a tour?
You can. The train to Pezinok takes half an hour and costs a few euros. The catch is that most cellars want a reservation, some are a taxi ride out of the village, and you will be tasting all afternoon with no lift home.
