A verger-led tour, however, gets you into the Shrine of Edward the Confessor, which is closed to everyone else, and that is the actual reason to pay the extra. Do I need to book Westminster Abbey in advance?
Not strictly, but book three to seven days ahead anyway. Online tickets are cheaper, entry is timed, and the walk-up queue on a summer morning runs 30 to 45 minutes for no reason.
Can you visit Westminster Abbey on a Sunday?
Not as a sightseer. Sunday is for worship only, and services are free to attend but you cannot wander with a guide. Evensong on a weekday is the free way in, and it is a lovely thing to do.
Is Westminster Abbey worth the money?
