Genuinely close. Doing it yourself is cheap — the train from Rossio costs about €2.50 and runs every twenty minutes — but you still have to hold a timed Pena ticket, and the 434 bus queue on an August afternoon is its own small tragedy. Take the small-group tour if you have one day and want three sites; go independent if you have been before, or if you would rather see two places properly than four in passing.
