Two to three weeks most of the year. Six to eight weeks from late March to mid-April, when every blossom-season group tour from Tokyo is fighting over the same coaches.
Is a Mount Fuji day trip from Tokyo worth it?
On a clear day, yes. On a cloudy one you have spent five hours in traffic to look at grey. Check the forecast, and book something with a free cancellation window if you can.
Can you visit Mount Fuji from Tokyo without a tour?
Easily. The Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko express bus takes about two hours and costs roughly 2,000 yen each way. You lose the 5th Station and the guide, and you gain the whole day.
